Memorial of Remembrance for Zachariah Walker

Join us on August 13th as we shine a light on our shared history, and learn about the tragedy of Zachariah Walker & Edgar Rice. Zachariah Walker was a victim of a lynching in Coatesville in 1911. We will learn together in hopes of overcoming hatred and violence through the strength of community. August 13th 2025 will mark the 114th anniversary of the event.

We’re co-sponsoring the event officially titled The Together Endowment’s Third Annual Senator Andy Dinniman Community Gathering, with The Together Endowment and the Coatesville Area Ministerium.

This day of rememberance will include:

10am – Burial Service at Church of Christ Cemetary

12pm – 4pm Lunch & Community Forum at Gateway Church

5pm Walk of Rememberance
We will gather in Gateway Park and walk to the site of the lynching on Strode Avenue. Transportation will be available for those unable to participate.

Please check back soon for a registration link to pre-register for the event, and for transportation during the march.

History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.
